Would you take your child to an unlicensed Doctor?
Would you have your car repaired by an unlicensed mechanic?
Well if you are looking for someone to prepare your tax return that might be the case. A federal district court said the IRS had no authority to regulate paid return preparers. Because of this ruling the IRS suspended its rules requiring these preparers to be IRS-approved (obtain a special PTIN, pass an exam, and take continuing education courses). While the IRS is working to reinstate governance over these paid preparers it may take some time. Note: This move does not impact enrolled agents, CPAs, and attorneys who are already subject to their own professional standards.
During the tax filing season ahead, check on your preparer’s credentials. Pascarella & Associates has the training, certification, and many years of experience to insure your return is properly completed and filed.
